Starting right after the New Year, activist groups and individuals up-and-down California plan to collect close to a million signatures that would place an initiative on the 2012 state ballot that would ask voters to decide whether GMO foods should be labeled as such.
If a sufficient number of valid signatures are obtained and California voters approve the proposition, it would empower citizens of that state to have far greater choice and control over their health by knowing what they are eating. The success of such a proposition would also impact the fundamental nature of food distribution and farming as well as the fate of genetically-modified foods, world-wide.
